Hello,
Up until now, I have posted a lot about PE Masterbatch, but today I will talk about PET Masterbatch.
PET Masterbatch refers to a concentrated material in the form of an additive used in the plastic industry. Here, 'PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)' refers to a plastic resin primarily used in bottles, fibers, packaging materials, and more. PET Masterbatch is a high-concentration additive used to improve the color or physical properties of PET plastic.

Characteristics and Purpose of PET Masterbatch
1. Variety of Color Changes: It is used to create PET products in various colors, containing high concentrations of pigments or dyes. This allows for the adjustment of the transparency or color tone of PET plastic.
2. Improvement of Physical Properties: It may include additives that enhance the physical properties of PET. For example, it can strengthen characteristics such as durability, resistance, and more.
3. Ease of Processing: PET masterbatch is mixed with PET resin during the manufacturing process, helping to increase process efficiency. It improves the melting properties during processing or enhances stability during molding processes.
The Process of Making PET Masterbatch
*The process of manufacturing PET Masterbatch generally follows these steps: raw material preparation → blending → extrusion → cooling and cutting → quality control. During this process, additives and PET resin are uniformly mixed and formed into high-concentration pellets, which are then used in the production of plastic products.
(PE Masterbatch contains PE resin, while PET Masterbatch contains PET resin.)
1. Raw Material Preparation
-PET Resin: High-quality PET resin is prepared. This resin serves as the basic material for manufacturing plastic.
-Additives: Additives such as pigments (carbon black, TiO2, etc.), heat stabilizers, UV stabilizers, flame retardants, etc., are prepared to enhance the physical and chemical properties of PET. Pigments are mainly used for coloring, while other additives enhance performance.
2. Blending
-In the blending process, PET resin and additives are mixed in precise proportions. The concentration of additives is adjusted based on the desired performance and color of the final product. A key point in blending is ensuring that each material is evenly distributed.
3. Extrusion
-The blended raw materials are melted through an extruder. The extruder uses high heat and pressure to melt the PET resin, which is then uniformly mixed with the additives. At this stage, PET turns into a liquid state, perfectly blending with the additives.
-The screw system in the extruder pushes the mixed material through the extrusion hole, shaping it into a consistent form.
4. Cooling and Cutting
-The extruded PET mixture is quickly cooled through a cooling system. This can involve using a water bath or air cooling system to solidify the mixture.
-The cooled solid is then cut into pellet form. These pellets represent the final PET Masterbatch product and are useful for future plastic processing.
5. Quality Control
-The final product undergoes several tests to ensure it meets consistent quality. Tests are conducted on color consistency, physical properties (heat resistance, strength, etc.), and blending uniformity.
-For color masterbatch, a color consistency test is performed to verify that the product exhibits the correct color and that the additives are evenly distributed.
6. Packaging and Storage
-Once the product passes quality control, it is packaged and stored or delivered to customers. Mass production typically takes place, and the products are packed in industrial packaging materials for transport to their final destinations.
Differences Between PE Masterbatch and PET Masterbatch
1.Basic Raw Material (Type of Resin):
-PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate): A polyester-based plastic primarily used in beverage bottles, fibers, and packaging materials, known for its high heat resistance and chemical resistance.
-PE (Polyethylene): A polyolefin-based plastic used in packaging films, plastic bags, pipes, etc. It has relatively low strength and heat resistance but excellent flexibility (HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, etc.).
2. Processing Temperature:
-PET: Requires a higher processing temperature, with a melting point between approximately 250°C and 280°C, requiring higher heat during processing.
-PE: Has a lower processing temperature, melting between 100°C and 130°C, making it easier to mold at lower temperatures. (The melting temperature may vary slightly depending on the type of PE, such as HDPE or LDPE.)
3. Physical Properties:
-PET: Known for its high strength, durability, heat resistance, and chemical resistance. It is highly transparent and used as a rigid plastic.
-PE: More characterized by flexibility and lightness, and can be made into either flexible low-density products or strong high-density products.
4. Applications:
-PET Masterbatch: Primarily used in beverage bottles, fibers, packaging materials, etc.
-PE Masterbatch: Used for flexible or durable products like plastic films, bags, pipes, and electrical wires.
5. Recyclability:
-PET: Widely known as a recyclable material, it can be reprocessed into new PET products through recycling.
-PE: Also recyclable, but the difficulty of recycling varies depending on the type (HDPE, LDPE), and recycled PE is often repurposed into different product categories.
*Summary:
-PET Masterbatch is used to enhance the characteristics of PET plastic and is suitable for products requiring high-temperature processing and durability.
-PE Masterbatch is an additive used to improve the color and properties of PE plastic, mainly used in products that require flexibility and are processed at low temperatures.
Both masterbatches are designed for their respective plastic resins, helping to produce products that match the inherent properties of each resin.
Products Made Using PET Masterbatch1. Bottles
-Products: Bottles for water, carbonated drinks, juices, etc.
-Features: PET Masterbatch is used to maintain the transparency of beverage bottles while adding specific colors or enhancing UV resistance. For example, cola bottles are made brown to prevent quality changes caused by sunlight, with the color being added through PET Masterbatch.
