Hello!
Following up on my previous post, today I’d like to talk about TiO2 (Titanium Dioxide) again, specifically focusing on the Rutile type and R-type.
"TIO2 (Titanium Dioxide)" R-type is the most stable and common form, primarily used in the production of pigments, coatings, and plastic raw materials (Masterbatch).
Titanium Dioxide (TIO2)
The process of producing Titanium Dioxide R-type involves heating Titanium Dioxide A-type (Anatase) at high temperatures, as briefly explained earlier.
First, prepare TiO2 in the Anatase form.
Then, convert the Anatase form into the Rutile form by heating it at temperatures between 700 to 1000°C. During this process, the crystal structure changes.
The characteristics of TiO2 R-type are as follows:
1. High Stability
- It is chemically very stable and does not react with most chemicals.
- It maintains stability even at high temperatures, meaning it can be used in high-temperature applications.
2. Strong Durability
- The Rutile type TiO2 is highly durable and resistant to wear and environmental conditions.
- When used in coatings and paints exposed to external environments, it does not deform and maintains performance over a long period.
- It has strong heat resistance.
3. Color and Gloss
- Pure Rutile TiO2 has a very bright and pure white color, making it ideal for high-quality paints and plastic production.
- Depending on the product, the white color can vary, such as having a bluish or yellowish tint.
- Its gloss enhances the appearance of paints and coatings.
4. High Refractive Index
- Rutile type TiO2 has a very high refractive index, providing stronger opacity compared to other types of TiO2, which is especially important in the paint and plastic industries.
- The high refractive index is crucial for improving the brightness and clarity of colors.
How to use TiO2 R-type:
1. Plastics: It is used to improve the color and gloss of plastic products and to increase UV resistance.
2. Paints and Coatings: Due to its high opacity and durability, it is widely used in industrial coatings such as those for construction, automotive, inks, wallpapers, and paints.

3. Cosmetics: It is commonly used in sunscreens and whitening cosmetics. (This is a different TiO2 product compared to industrial-grade TiO2.)
