Hello!
In the previous post, I discussed TIO2 (Titanium Dioxide Rutile type), also known as R-grade. Today, I would like to talk about one of the types of TIO2, Anatase (A-grade).
If you're curious about the Rutile type (R-grade), please refer to the link below.

-The Anatase type is more sensitive to heat than the Rutile type. As mentioned in the previous post, applying high heat to the Anatase type can transform it into Rutile, which makes the Rutile type more heat-resistant.
-The Anatase type is commonly used in applications such as photocatalysts, sunscreens, and solar cells, whereas the Rutile type, due to its stability at high temperatures, is often used in plastics, coatings, polishes, and other applications. Additionally, the Rutile type has lower absorption in the visible light spectrum, making it useful in fields that require high light transmittance.
-Ultimately, there are differences in optical properties, thermal stability, and other characteristics, and each type is applied in its respective industrial field.
Applications of TIO2 Anatase
1. Cosmetic Grade Anatase
-Uses: Cosmetics, sunscreen, products
-Features: It has high purity and low photocatalytic activity to ensure safe use on the skin, and is provided in a coated form to avoid irritation. The surface is typically treated with aluminum or silica to increase safety for the skin. (Industrial-grade Anatase is not used.)
2. Nano Anatase
-Uses: Solar cells, environmental purification
-Features: With particles of extremely small nanometer size, it provides high photocatalytic performance. When exposed to UV light, it generates reactive oxygen species to break down pollutants or generates electron-hole pairs to efficiently produce electricity in solar cells.
3. Industrial Grade Anatase
-Uses: Paint, coatings, paper, plastic additives
-Features: Used to improve optical properties or enhance UV stability. It is typically used to increase gloss or adjust opacity and is manufactured for high durability and efficiency. This type offers stability at high temperatures and excellent durability.
4. Photocatalytic Grade Anatase
-Uses: Environmental purification, self-cleaning coatings, antimicrobial agents\
-Features: Maximizing photocatalytic performance, this grade is widely used for air and water pollution purification. It is especially effective in breaking down pollutants by generating reactive oxygen species in response to UV light.
5. High Purity Anatase
-Uses: Research and development, high-end electronic materials, specialized chemical processes
-Features: With extremely high purity (99.99% or higher), this Anatase is used in research or advanced technological processes. Its very low impurity content makes it suitable for use in electronic materials or semiconductor manufacturing.
How to Use TIO2 Anatase
1. Plastics and Paper: It is added to plastic and paper products to increase opacity and improve color quality.
2. Sunscreen: Used in cosmetics to protect the skin from UV radiation, providing UV absorption and blocking effects.
3. Paints and Coatings: Used to provide high gloss and opacity, improving color and durability.
4. Self-Cleaning Glass: Used to break down pollutants with UV light, enabling the glass surface to self-clean.
